Audra's versatility and breadth as a performer is unmatched. Audra has received the Tony Awards six times, as well as two Grammy Awards, as well as an Emmy Award. The winner of a record-breaking seven Tony Awards two Grammy Awards as well as an Emmy Award in 2015 she was named one of Time magazine's top 100 influential people. She also received the National Medal of Arts--America's highest honor for achievement in the arts--from President Barack Obama. She has a home in film, television and Broadway. Her stunning soprano makes her a natural on the stage. In addition to her work in the theatre, she maintains a major career as a concert and recording performer who regularly appears at world's foremost venues. McDonald was born into a musical family in Fresno, California. She was a classical singer who received training at The Juilliard School of New York. The year 1994 was the year following her graduation from Juilliard School, she won the Tony Award for "Best Performance of a Leading Actress Musical" for her performance in Carousel. Over the next four years she was awarded two more Tony Awards in the featured actress category for her performances in the Broadway premieres of Terrence McNally's play Master Class (1996) and the musical Ragtime (1998) making an unprecedented total of three Tony Awards before the age of thirty. In 2004, she received her fourth Tony acting alongside Sean Diddy Combs in A Raisin in the Sun and in 2012, she took home her fifth--and her first in the leading actress category in the role of her lead for her role in The Gershwins Porgy and Bess. When she won the sixth Tony Award in 2014, Billie Holiday's portrayal as Lady Day in Lady Day in Emerson's Bar & Grill was the most prestigious Broadway production. In 2017 she was the first to make the West End London West End debut, and was nominated for the Olivier Award. As the first actress to be recognized in all four category of acting, McDonald beat the record in the number of awards an actor has been awarded. The credits she has in the theater include The Secret Garden (1993) Marie Christine (993) Henry IV (2004) and 110 in the Shade (707). Twelfth Night marked McDonald's Public Theater Shakespeare in the Park debut. Shuffle Along is the Making of the Musical Seduction in 1921 and the Drama That Followed. Frankie Johnny in the Clair de Lune. and Ohio State Murders. McDonald was introduced to the public via television for her dramatic performance in Peabody Award winning CBS's Having Our Say the Delany Sisters first 100 years. She went on to co-star with Kathy Bates and Victor Garber in the critically acclaimed 1999 remake by ABC and Disney of Annie as well as in 2000, she played a regular role on NBC's hit series Law & Order Special Victims Unit. McDonald's Emmy-nominated performance of Emma Thompson in Mike Nichols' HBO film adaptation of Pulitzer Prize winner Wit was directed by Mike Nichols. McDonald's return to the network TV screen came in 2003 in which she co-starred with Josh Brolin in Mister Sterling. The actress joined The Bedford Diaries on the WB show The Bedford Diaries in early 2006. The following season, she was a recurring character on NBC's TV show Kidnapped. McDonald was awarded the 4th Emmy nomination in recognition of her performance in HBO's special film of Lady Day at Emerson's Bar and Grill in the year 2016. The Bite will be a six-episode series about a pandemic that will be produced by Spectrum Originals, CBS Studios and Taylor Schilling in 2021. McDonald initially played U.S. lawyer Liz Lawrence (now Liz Reddick), in the CBS law-and-order thriller The Good Wife, in 2009. In the year 2018, she returned to her role on The Good Fight for Paramount+ as a regular on the series. She received three Critics Choice Award Nominations. She appears as a special appearance on the HBO series The Gilded Age by Julian Fellowes.
